Discover the Benefits of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
Reduce Your Taxable Income
When you take funds from your IRA, they count as taxable income. But if you transfer them directly to San Diego State University, you reduce your taxable income while satisfying your RMD.
Fulfill Your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
After you turn 73, you must distribute funds from your IRA. If you do not distribute the required minimum, you may be penalized, but a QCD allows a transfer up to $105,000 per individual or $210,000 per couple to satisfy your RMD.
Take a one-time QCD
An individual may take a one-time QCD up to $53,000 to fund a charitable gift annuity (CGA) or charitable remainder trust (CRT).
Enrich the lives of SDSU students
When you make a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA to San Diego State University, you will help us enrich the lives of SDSU students for years to come.
“I’ve been grateful for all SDSU has given me to enrich my life. In 1957, I received a $400 scholarship that made it possible to attend full time and to purchase all my books. That was the seed which has grown to my “tree of life.”
Now that “tree” has made it possible for me to support the university in return, and I donate via a QCD (“qualified charitable distribution”) from my IRA. Not only do I provide much needed funding to SDSU, but I also reduce my taxes. It’s easy and is a very satisfying way to give back to my educational home.”
—Robin Briscoe Luby (Class of 61), QCD Donor
